Acer A500-10S16u Review — Acer Iconia Tab A500-10S16u 10.1-Inch Tablet Computer

Unlike a lot of people go to buy an iPad2, which was to me, was like a glorified version of iPhone, I wanted to wait a little longer for a Honeycomb tablet to be released. I know we had already a couple of Honeycomb tablets such as Xoom which appeared to be more promising, but to me, it is not just there yet.

And then this Acer A500-10S16u, it is one of the new tablets which is released after the iPad 2 to let people know what kind of hardware will actually work on a tablet, but together along with full functionality of a Android system.

So firstly, I went to research into its specs as well as what its users were saying about this Acer A500-10S16u tablet. Finally I went to Best Buy to play around with it a few times before purchasing it. I love this Acer A500-10S16u.

The 10.1" Acer Iconia Tab A500-10S16u.

Acer A500-10S16u feels really solid in my hands. The power switch button was a bit confusing at first, but once I found it, the idea grew on me.

There are dual built-in cameras, 5MP Rear-Facing Camera and 2MP Front-Facing Camera that are nice, eventhough taking pictures or videos on a tablet is not really practical.

The Acer A500-10S16u also includes dual Speakers, and they are surprisingly quiet loud for a small size device.

I had a mind blowing browsing experience, really a great experience I have ever had.  Acer A500-10S16u does support flash perfectly, and I am sure that Flash technology will never die seeing what it can do with Android tablets. Note, to enable Flash, you need to download it from the apps market first, it is a free app and it takes about 25 seconds to install.

Acer A500-10S16u vs iPad 2 vs Transformer vs Xoom

vs iPad 2

Apart of the freedom from iTunes, this tablet supports flash while iPad 2 doesn’t and wins on its 1280×800 px resolution and its 16×10 aspect ratio, with its 10.1-inch display. This means videos will be displayed better on this tablet than in iPad 2.(iPad has 4×3 format ratio and 9.7-inch screen).

Furthermore, iPad 2 does not include microSD, HDMI output, and USB port to transfer files.

However iPad 2 will win on the weight. Acer A500-10S16u is only a few pounds heavier.

vs Asus Transformer

Transformer wins on external features such as its docking station or the expandable keyboard that will allow you to use a tablet as a netbook on an Android Operating System. This means, Transformer is better on handling and accessing multimedia content or media networks.

To be fair, this Acer A500-10S16u has better Front-Facing camera since it has 2MP while Transformer has 1.2MP. Additionally, Transformer’s casing is built from plastic material, and this tablet has a solid Aluminium brushed case.

vs Motorola Xoom

Xoom has 32GB storage while the A500 only has 16GB, but it is not a big deal for me since I can expand it if I prefer, by using microSD.
