How do I install wordpress on Mac? That was my question when i already did install it on windows.
I thought it would not be difficult, just slightly different. And it was just simple.
What we will need for this video is MAMP server, here is the quick link. Then we also need the latest version of wordpress zip file.
Basically with MAMP we will convert our Mac to be a web server, holding power databases, and working on PHP code.
The only difference that i found in installing on Mac was in the web browser we have to type 8888 after localhost. We don’t have to do it on windows though. If you want to install in windows, I made another video guide on how to do it.
We just need to pay attention on the name of the folder, where you save wordpress. If you don’t rename the folder, it will be named “WordPress” by default. (After you extract wordpress.zip file).
At the end of the video, you will be able installing wordpress on mac os leopard with MAMP. I prefer to install wordpress locally first before i upload it to the server. It’s very useful if you want to create your own theme, and we can try everything locally too!.
Sorry for my voice guys, i had flu while i made screencast :D

Your comment makes me smile. Hang around with us bloggers, especially me with my typos and you’ll get use to the fact that we value you for your person and your ideas (and that gorgeous art I add) and not for those perfect details.
Hey Stephen, Thanks for coming by and commenting, You’re absolutely right on that :)
Hey Dina,
Some time back I actually used MAMP to install wordpress locally on my mac, not really knowing what it actually was useful for. I figured I would be able to access my blog offline so that I could write in wordpress and preview new posts without having to be plugged into the internet.
Unfortunately, it was just the standard blue theme wordpress that you originally get with a wordpress install. I couldn’t view any of my content.
Is it possible to set up wordpress locally so that you can access your blog offline, or is it only useful for testing new themes and tweaking HTML?
Hey, yeah, you’re right, i am doing it too to tweaks the themes, and most of all to try plugins, before i install it in my blog:D
Usually, we can access the content and all, just like when we have it online though.
Greetings!
This is going to be good. I bought one Macbook pro 13″ last week but still it’s taking some time for me to shift to mac book completely.
I;m sure its gng to take some time for me, specially Windows live writer is not available for mac.
Yay!! Congrats :D Have fun with it, I can’t use MAC lol i am not used to it, and i am so used to windows, so I mostly use windows than mac.
I have a question more than a comment. Once you use your Mac as the server…the computer has to be on all the time?…so that people can access your website?…sorry if this is a silly question..
@Francisco, Hello there.
Regarding your question, if you install wordpress locally, it will not be able to be accessed other people unless they have same files and database as yours.
Installing wordpress locally will mostly help you to tweak themes, try plugins, or getting familiar with wp, not to be accessed by other people online.
Hello –
Can I still use WP if I don’t install MMAP?
oI I need a special host?
I love my MAC, but still getting use to it.
I called on 2 Apple stores (not corp, they
are too far away) to help me install the programs
but neither one new what I was talking about.
Hi Suzyn
Yes, you still can install wordpress if you do not want to install MAMP.
It means you will need a hosting server, like JustHost or HostGator, and then you can install wordpress there..
If you have a webserver, it does not matter if you use Mac or PC..
I hope this will help.
Have a great weekend,
Kimi.
Thank you very much for the info, I had been surfing the web for a while looking for the best way to do this. And thanks for working through the flu to make this video.
Thank you for your very helpful tutorials and overviews. And especially this one. I am a Mac user and was looking for an easy way to “test-drive” all my WP stuff locally and this looks like it will fit well. Thanks again!
