MC814LL A Review – Apple iMac MC814LL/A 27-Inch Desktop Model
The Macs have very long been the choice for professionals and creatives. I have used a brilliant iMac 20″ Core 2 Duo for two years, and I wanted to get this MC814LL A 27″ i5 for an upgrade (Got it at $1,799.00 here).
The MC814LL A came with a great condition, and once I was done with unboxing, placed it next to my existing iMac 20″, the 27-inch screen is indeed a treat! – really amazing difference.
Apple iMac MC814LL A 27-Inch Desktop is the best computer I have ever purchased, not only reliable, but it is also trouble free.
After this iMac MC814LL A was powered on, and its basic configuration was done, I run the automatic data transfer and my application (with onboard software) from my old iMac to my new iMac MC814LL/A. It worked nearly all perfect, but I still needed to fix where necessary. Perhaps it was because I have never used this utitily before.
So about ten minutes after unboxing, this new iMac MC814LL A was already a fully configured desktop, and my iTunes libarry was already copied over too.
I used cheap upgrade to put the 4GB of RAM to 8GB of RAM, so now my iMac MC814LL A has 8GB of RAM. I did it because I run many programs while running Adobe Photoshop CS5 nearly everyday, and it really needs greater RAM.
Performance wise, as it is expected from a desktop costing this much money, the 3.1HGz i5 quad-core processor of MC814LL A is incredible fast, just match with SSD (Solid State Drive). I have tested running games (including Call of Duty), and they perform incredibly quick.
The magic mouse which is included in the package is really inovative because it employs gestures just like a touch-screen phone. This my only small issue with this magic mouse, because it is built for left-right handed people, so it is not really comfortable to use, and I got a little cramp after an hour usage. I thought about replacing it with my old Microsoft mouse, but thankfully, I was used to it and opted to use this magic mouse.
Bootcamp is a great feature, and it is easy. With bootcamp you can install extra Opersating System on your iMac to have multiple Operating System booting. You can do partition and run the fastest Windows set up you have ever had, just easily install your second OS and it will perfectly works.
A lots of good points on this iMac MC814LL A, but the best one is Time Machine. You can plugin in a USB hard drive and let Time Machine to run. What the Time Machine does is it backs up anything (it runs in the background without distracting any of our computing works), any changes in your iMac every hour, or specific period as much as the capacity your extra drive allows.
I find Time Machine is a really genius program. I have used it for a complete restore one day after my antivirus deactivated my Internet port (port 80) and I easily put my backup that restore the hard drive again the way it was!
The built in SD card reader of MC814LL A which supports SDHC and SDXC, is also worth a mention, it is placed below the optical drive which is on the side of your iMac.
Furthermore the new Thunderbolt port which replaces its Mini Display port will be great once it is available. You will be able to plugin an external monitor to your Thunderbolt port and at the same time, you can plug in several hard drives beside your monitor, so connection to your iMac using just one connector is nice.
