Source Path Too Long – Error Deleting and Moving Files

Windows Vista Source Path Too Long – Deleting and Moving Files error message.

This happened when i want to move some of my files (movie quick time .mov files) to my external hardrive for a backup a few days ago.

How does this source path too long message look like?

When i want to move a file, this source path too long error messages comes up:

Source Path Too Long

The source file name(s) are larger than is supported by the file system. Try moving to a location which has a shorter path name, or try to shorter name(s) before attempting this operation.”

As you see in the image, it was quite annoying error, because i have tried many times and it did not work. I even tried to move the files by putting them to a .zip file. It did not help.

How to fix this source path too long problem?

The solution was really simple, and i have never thought about it.

In this example, i wanted to move a .mov file, let’s say, this file is named: how to add a youtube to wordpress.mov

This .mov file is inside a folder which is labeled; mywordpressvideotutorialbackup.

So the fix was, rename the folder to a shorter name, like mywpbackup. It hope it will also help your source path too long error message getting fixed!
