Toshiba Portege R835-P56 13.3-Inch LED Laptop (Magnesium Blue)

I always need mini laptops, which have 13-inch screen, because they are more portable for me, as a graduate student who needs to carry the laptop around.

Fortunately, I work in IT world, so I am fortunate to be able testing numerous of laptops, for instance, the new Acer TimelineX, Sony laptop, and HP’s.

In Comparison to those laptop Toshiba wins on portability, quality, features and functionality, and most important, the price.

After testing many laptops from various manufacturers, I purchased Toshiba Portege R835-P56 , I notice there is huge different in performance.

My older 13.3-inch computers were very slow when I run heavy programs such as Microsoft Office in several application windows, together with email and surfing the web.

Toshiba Portege R835-P56 is fantastic, it is very light, very thin, and small, at 13.3-inch! I got it at $644.99 here.

Furthermore, this computer has big memory and I like its performance which can run many applications and programs at once without issues.

A very nice laptop just for most application, 4 gigs of RAM, i5 “Sandy Bridge” dual core processor, and 640GB Sata HD, plenty of storage.

Not too much different with other available laptops out there, Toshiba Portege R835-P56 also comes with a lots of bloatware, it comes with these softwares, 30-day trial Norton Internet Security 2011, Microsoft Office Starter 2010, Windows Media Playeer 12, Microsoft Live Essentials, 30 day trial of Toshiba Online Backup, as welll as other Toshiba Utilities, like the eco utility, USB sleep and Charge, and Hard Drive Impact Sensor.

I removed some programs that I don’t think they are useful, the removing softwares was very simple, easy and very fast. Not a biggie.

Toshiba Portege R835-P56  is a solid laptop, it has a very sharp LED backlit monitor, fast performance working on i5 dual core processor (Windows 7 experience is top notch!), as well as incredible smooth trackpad.

Unlike other laptops, Toshiba Portege R835-P56 placed its ports smartly.

The battery life is fantastic, although the product description says, it has 9 hours battery life, I can get it around 6 hours with some environmental settings.

One thing you should be aware of, is the magnesium alloy cover is a fingerprint magnet, although it gives really a fantastic and professional looking laptop finish.

After using it a few weeks, here is my cons and pros:

Bad:

1. Awful viewing angle, but I need to say, most laptops have this issue
2. Not too great speaker and webcam quality
3. The magnesium casing is a fingerprint magnet, if it bothers you, an extra cover is needed

Good:

1. It looks elegant with magnesium cover
2. Thin, lightweight, small, and very portable
3. Powerful performance little thing
4. Really great LED monitor and graphics

To summarize all, I need to say, my pros outweigh the cons, and I needed a light, portable laptop which has has solid power and performance, this Toshiba laptop delivered it.

Toshiba Portege R835-P56  is definitely a mini computer packed with bigger computer’s memory.
