WordPress Not Found Page -Fix 404 Error

How to fix WordPress Not Found Page in your blog.

Actually this post idea came from one of my commenter, Lillie. She wanted to write pages content in her blog after changing home page tab and readings settings.

After she wrote page’s content, she saved it and publish the page, but when she visit the page, this wordpress not found error came up.

WordPress Not Found Page notification.

The page will be suddenly white, and it says:

“Not Found, the requested URL blog was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 not found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”.

How does this WordPress not found error appear?

It can be caused by many things, for example, changing your wordpress permalinks. If the .htaccess permission file is not writeable, changing permalinks will cause wordpress not found page.

In Lillie’s case, she did not even have .htaccess in her wordpress installation file folder. This apparently caused wordpress not found 404 error.

The fix?

Make the files writable, see more infos in changing file permission, or upload .htaccess file to your folder, make sure that you don’t override the existing .htaccess file.

I mean, before you upload the new .htaccess file, you have to make sure that you do not have .htaccess file.

Before you click “go” in cPanel → File Manager, click “show hidden files” this will enable you to see whether you have .htaccess file or not.

show hidden file

Show hidden file option to find htaccess file.

If you’re not sure, contact your host for support. I hope this experience will help you if you have the same 404 error wordpress not found page.
